In French, when someone dies, there are many expressions such as “Casser sa pipe”.
In English, “break his pipe” doesn’t mean anything.
On the other hand, a common phrase in English would be “to kick the bucket”, literally “Donner un coup de pied au sceau”.
This expression comes from the phrase “a/the bucket list” which means “a list of things to do in one’s life before death”.
“Kick the bucket” means to do all the things you want in one’s life before giving life that one last kick.
